February at the Ranch

PICT0490.jpg
Young buck dropped at the Lick Site.

February has been great at the ranch, we have found some amazing sheds, checked the cams and been watching several young bucks that have not dropped yet. It has been a very busy time as we are now getting ready to plant our food plots, fix the roads and everything that the winter had messed up.

It has been a couple of days since we have had a chance to go out and shed hunt, but it looks to be slowing down. There have been only a few showing up on the cams with the headgear. For more sheds we have found this season click here!pict0163

The food plots held up great throughout the winter and the deer are looking really good as they come out of the hard times of winter. They have gained back most of the weight they had lost and are getting ready to grow their monster racks and have their fawns. Make sure to keep watching the blog and our other media pages as they spring and summer progress.

One of the younger elk and a sika are still holding their headgear also. Hopefully we will be able to find them when they do finally drop.

PICT0474.jpgOne of the best things about running the cameras all year long is getting to see all the different animals that use our camera traps. We have been seeing quite a few turkey on the ranch and it is getting us itching for turkey season.

Our first hunts will again be in the middle of August as we will be hunting monster whitetails in velvet for a few exclusive hunts. If you were thinking about joining us for the premier velvet hunt in the country, the spots are filling up quickly.

There are a limited number of spots available on both ranches, and also a few elk and sika hunts available.  Call now to get information on these great hunts, 573-943-6644, or go to our website, www.oakcreekwhitetailranch.com.

Show Season is Over, Time for Shed Hunting

screen-shot-2017-02-01-at-11-38-45-amWe would like to thank everyone who came by and saw us at the conventions this season. It was great seeing you and catching up.

Both DSC and SCI went great and we had good weather for the trips there and back.

We have begun to find some sheds and they are really giving us great expectations for 2017 and upcoming years. We have cameras out year round to monitor our herds, so as soon as we get photos with dropped antlers, we start looking. Two weeks in we have found some great sheds. Check out these, and let us know what you think!

This set scored almost 200″net. In the photos he was at least 25″ wide inside. He will be something to really watch in the 2017 season. We may have the next Typical Record!

This monster typical set scored 194”. With photos we have of him, he looked to be over 25” wide. Just imagine this monster buck walking under your stand next season. Going around 225-230” this time, what do you think he will score next season? Could we have the next Typical World Record Buck? Oh and we are still waiting on a bigger typical to drop. Stay tuned to Facebook and our other social media pages to see the sheds as they come in.

Now it is time to laser focus on getting everything ready for the 2017 season. We are cleaning up, this winter has been pretty hard on the trees with the wind and ice we have had. It seems like there is always something that needs working on.

Record breaking first month!

JM 426web.jpgThe first month of season has came and went and at Oak Creek, we are having one of our best years ever. We started hard horn hunting on September 15. Both ranches are well above the average for the year and we are seeing some beautiful deer coming in.

On the main ranch, we have seen the pending #6 Non-Typical Midwestern Whitetail harvested, 426”, and another 6 over 300”. The average here is 263 6/8”. It seems everyday we see another record book buck come in off the main ranch. To see the record book bucks of Oak Creek, Click Here!

jontuggle5x7webOak Creek 2 has had one deer over 300” and five more over the 200” mark. That bring OC2 to four bucks over 300” and 27 bucks over 200” in the last two years. The average for the first month of hunting is 210 5/8” on Oak Creek 2.

The 300″ buck was very unique as it was growing two extra antlers on the right side. One right above the eye and another between the main antler and the eye.

Oak Creek Monster Buck Tracker 9-23

23kIt has been a great week at Oak Creek. Our hunters are tagging incredible bucks and we are seeing more bucks than ever on the cams now.

The temperatures have been extremely high for late September, but the deer are still moving in early morning and late evening. We had a couple of days that the heat index has been in the high 90’s and low 100’s. The weather is supposed to cool off this weekend and should have 70’s next week.

One good thing about this hot, wet weather the Hunter’s Specialties Vita Rack Clover is really green and lush right now and the deer are really using it.

We caught some on them on trail cam. It made for some very cool photos. Several big typical and non-typical bucks showed themselves and we added a couple more to the hitlist for the year.

Oak Creek Monster Buck Tracker 9-15-16

The season has begun and the monster bucks have really started moving now that they most are done shedding their velvet. We are getting more shots of them out of sanctuary areas.

pict5209We also finally caught a shot of a big palmated buck on the cams this week. We had seen him a couple of times this summer but had never seen him on the cams.

PICT5070.jpgIf you are looking for drop tines, this buck would make your dreams come true. He has two on the right side and one on the left, plus good width and tine length.

The weather this summer has been perfect for growing huge racks. There has been enough rain to keep the food plots growing good all summer and the heat has not been too high, with only a couple of days near 100 degrees.

The Hunter’s Specialties Vita Rack Clover has been knee high and lush green all summer. It has kept the deer looking slick all summer long. To show the effectiveness of the food plots this summer, in this last set of photos the cameras averaged over 1000 shots in a three day period.

An addition to the Monster Buck Tracker this week is one of the Monster Bulls on the Ranch. We are estimating him at over 370″, with a unique non-typical point at his base.

Nature Blind Stump Feeder

Our Nature Blinds Stump Feeder is keeping them coming back over and over. It has kept the deer looking slick and in great shape all summer long. We have seen a deer that has plenty to eat, without the stress of finding food, the buck will most definitely produce a larger rack and the does raise a much better fawn.
